Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but it fails to provide a complete overview. The description of the data is fragmented and lacks precision, particularly in the final paragraph which is incomplete. While the main trends are identified, the lack of specific data points (figures) makes the summary less effective. The response does not fully address the requirement to make comparisons, as the trends are described in isolation rather than in relation to one another. To improve, ensure all parts of the graph are covered and include specific data points to support your observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' is repetitive and sometimes used incorrectly, such as in the final incomplete sentence. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of information. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher score. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'it's value got down' and 'at not a continuous way'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'interest' and 'went up/down'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined steadily', or 'remained stable'. Avoiding repetitive phrasing will also help demonstrate a more flexible range of lexical resources.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb tenses, subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'it's value'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the people took part mostly in Film club during the year across from 2000 to 2020'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb forms.
