Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the popularity of the film club and the trends for table tennis and musical performances. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, describing the film club as having 'almost 65' is imprecise, and the description of the trends lacks the necessary analytical depth to fully compare the categories. While the main features are identified, the lack of clear data points and the slight inaccuracies in describing the trends (e.g., 'almost every had incline graph') prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide more accurate data reporting and clearer comparisons between the different activities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and a detail paragraph. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'In detail', 'Third popular game', 'Fourth game', 'lastly'). Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraph could be smoother. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical flow is hindered by the repetitive structure of the sentences. Using a wider variety of linking words and improving the logical connection between sentences would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'ratio of people took part' instead of 'number of participants' and 'had incline graph' instead of 'showed an upward trend'. The student relies on basic descriptors like 'stable' and 'incline' repeatedly. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', or 'experienced a sharp increase', and improve your control over word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people had take interest', 'almost every had incline graph', and 'a sudden incline were seen'. Subject-verb agreement and tense usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for describing past data, and ensuring sentence structures are grammatically sound will significantly improve your performance.
