Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You have successfully identified the dominant category (Film club) and the contrasting trends of other activities. However, the description of the musical performance data is confusing and inaccurate; you state there were 'no participants' in 2005, then immediately contradict this by saying 'there were some participants,' which makes the data reporting unclear. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data interpretation is precise and that you avoid contradictory statements when describing trends. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'By contrast,' 'Turning to,' and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the information. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing within the final paragraph is a bit disjointed. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the response. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is always smooth and logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dominant category,' 'fluctuation,' and 'dramatically.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'other group of activities' (should be 'other groups') and 'remains same' (should be 'remained the same'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensuring correct collocations would enhance your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'before it falling' (should be 'before falling'), 'at the 2010 it increased' (should be 'in 2010, it increased'), and 'over the year' (should be 'over the years'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and article usage. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of minor errors prevents the writing from being considered consistently accurate.
