The line graph illustrates how the numbers of participants for different activities have changed at a social centre based in Melbourne from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, film club has been preferred highly at all times, while amateur dramatics has been on a decline. Moreover, there has been a huge surge in the number of people participating in table tennis.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively addresses the task requirements by identifying the main trends and providing relevant data points. You have successfully highlighted the stability of the film club, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the significant growth in table tennis. The overview is clear and captures the key features of the graph. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are precise; for instance, when mentioning the film club remained the same, it would be beneficial to explicitly state the figure (around 60) to provide a more comprehensive summary. Overall, the information is well-selected and accurately reported.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on different activities. You have used cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the data. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. To improve further, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, in the second paragraph, 'the value remained same' could be more clearly linked to the specific activity mentioned previously. Overall, the structure is effective and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.5

You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a data description task, such as 'surge', 'fluctuations', 'inclination', and 'participating'. The word choices are generally accurate and help convey the trends clearly. There are a few minor issues with collocation, such as 'preferred highly' and 'massive inclination', which sound slightly unnatural in this context. However, these do not impede communication. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations for describing trends, such as 'experienced a significant increase' rather than 'massive inclination'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of tense is consistent with the requirements of the task (using past tense for the period 2000-2020). There are occasional minor errors, such as 'remained same' (missing the article 'the') and 'roughly around' (which is redundant). These are non-systematic and do not affect the clarity of your report. To move to a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice or participle clauses, to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
