Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the graph, such as the popularity of the film club and the trends for other activities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision in reporting data points. For instance, while you mention that table tennis increased, you do not provide specific figures to support these claims, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response. The overview is present but could be more clearly defined to highlight the most significant trends across the entire period. To improve, ensure you include specific data points (years and numbers) to substantiate your descriptions of the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into an introduction, body, and conclusion, which provides a basic structure. However, the flow of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or awkward transitions, such as 'afterward it increased dramatically in one decade then it surged expoentially'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several spelling errors, such as 'delinites' (delineates), 'expoentially' (exponentially), and 'preffered' (preferred). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'moderate experienced' or 'highest marked'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of control over spelling and collocation limits the score. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and practice using collocations appropriate for describing graphs, such as 'showed a steady decline' or 'experienced a significant surge'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'amateur dramatics was stood at third' (should be 'stood at third') and 'musical performances has least preferred' (should be 'were the least preferred'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are inconsistent throughout the text. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
