Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and identifies key trends, such as the dramatic increase in participants and the specific performance of individual activities. However, the reporting of data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing (e.g., stating the count of participants in table tennis and amateur dramatics were the same at 20 in 2010, which is difficult to verify against the graph). The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant trends rather than just mentioning one activity. The description of the data is generally relevant, but the lack of precision in referencing the graph's specific figures limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief overview. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Lastly', but some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'While, the number of participants in martial arts was fell'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing within the text is sometimes repetitive, and the paragraphing could be improved to better group the activities by their trends (e.g., increasing vs. decreasing).
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'dramatically', and 'moderately'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'numbers of applicants of participated' (should be 'number of participants') and 'with the least of number of participants'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited control over more sophisticated lexical items. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points but lacks the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and passive voice constructions, such as 'number of participants in martial arts was fell' and 'the count of participants... were same'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is occasionally disjointed. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band, as the control over complex structures is not consistent.
