Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully identifies the main features of the graph, including the overall popularity of the Film club and the contrasting trends for table tennis and amateur dramatics. You have provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data from the graph. However, the description of the musical performances is slightly inaccurate, as you mention '0 participants in 2000 and 2005' while the graph shows a start at 0 in 2000 and a rise by 2005. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are interpreted with absolute precision and that all trends are described with consistent accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'By comparisons', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor mechanical errors in referencing and sentence structure. For instance, the transition 'By comparisons' is slightly awkward; 'By comparison' would be more natural. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related information, which helps the reader follow your analysis of the different activities. Further development of linking phrases would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant growth', 'dramatically', and 'relatively stable'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'amount of participants' (should be 'number of'), 'flim club' (spelling), and 'amateur dramatic' (should be 'amateur dramatics'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that plural/singular forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the flim club were' (should be 'was'), 'maintained it number one' (should be 'its'), and 'the figure for martial art' (should be 'martial arts'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the missing space after the comma in 'Melbourne,Australia'. While these errors are frequent, they do not cause difficulty for the reader. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for basic agreement errors will help improve your score.
