Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the significant growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the description of the film club is slightly confusing; you mention it remained the dominant category but then describe a fall in 2010 that is not clearly supported by the visual data. To improve, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you clearly distinguish between the overall trends and the specific figures. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main movements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Subsequently', and 'It can be seen that' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the film club and martial arts in the third paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for an Academic Task 1 response.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant upward trend', 'steady decline', and 'oscillations'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'remained approximately same' (should be 'the same') and 'it end up reaching at' (should be 'it reached'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrasing is slightly unnatural. Expanding your range of collocations related to data trends would help elevate your score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'participants who participated' (redundant), 'remained constant with minor fluctuations' (good), and 'recorded almost same number' (missing article). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency and preposition usage, such as 'reaching at'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
