Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the decline in amateur dramatics and the growth in table tennis. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention fluctuations, you could improve by highlighting the most significant overall change or the highest/lowest participants more clearly. The data reporting is generally accurate, though some figures are slightly imprecise (e.g., 'around 64'). To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons between categories are more explicit rather than just listing individual trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'On the other side' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and some mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sets, which helps the reader follow your analysis. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'dramatic increase', and 'gradually'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'experience the growth' instead of 'experienced growth' and 'remain at top' instead of 'remained at the top'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns to describe trends, and pay closer attention to article usage (e.g., 'the' film club).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'film club experienced most participants' (should be 'had the most') and 'participants decline' (should be 'declined'). Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary articles. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, focus on consistent tense usage when describing past data and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
