Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response effectively addresses all requirements of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and successfully selected key features to illustrate the data. The comparison between the activities is well-integrated, such as noting the 'significant growth' of table tennis versus the 'considerable decline' of amateur arts. The data points are accurate and support your descriptions well. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently highlight the most striking differences or similarities throughout the entire period, perhaps by grouping the activities more distinctly in the body paragraphs to enhance the analytical quality of the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the information effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Meanwhile', and 'To begin with' to link your sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information flows naturally from one point to the next. The use of referencing is clear, and there is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive phrasing. The structure is well-managed throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Phrases like 'consistently had the highest number', 'experienced the most significant growth', and 'fell steadily' demonstrate a good command of descriptive language. The vocabulary is precise and appropriate for an academic report. While the range is good, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or less common synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased' (e.g., 'surged', 'plummeted', or 'witnessed a marginal rise') would help elevate the lexical score further. Overall, the word choice is natural and error-free.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.5
The response displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'Although' clauses and contrastive conjunctions. The grammar is highly accurate, with the majority of sentences being error-free. Punctuation is used correctly to support the clarity of your writing. You have demonstrated a strong control over verb tenses, which is essential for reporting historical data. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher band, you could experiment with more varied sentence beginnings or more complex participial phrases to demonstrate even greater flexibility.
