Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the graph, including the overall trends and key data points. You covered all five activities and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the film club's dominance and the significant rise in table tennis participation. However, the response could be improved by providing a more analytical overview that synthesizes the data rather than just listing figures. For instance, grouping the activities by their growth or decline patterns would demonstrate a higher level of data interpretation. The information is accurate, but the development of the trends could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas as you move through the different activities. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you rely heavily on 'the number of people' and 'the figures' to start your sentences. Using a wider variety of linking words and referencing techniques (such as pronouns or synonyms) would improve the flow between sentences and help the response feel more cohesive and less like a list of separate observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'fluctuation', 'declined', and 'remains highest'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'partipants' and 'pepole', and some awkward phrasing like 'dramatical change' (should be 'dramatic change'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and adjectives for describing trends would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in film club', 'in musical performance') and subject-verb agreement ('number rise', 'performance begins'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical consistency, especially regarding pluralization and the correct use of articles when discussing data trends.
