Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points for the five activities. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest participants and noted the significant growth in table tennis. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise comparisons between the categories. For instance, while you mention the decline in Amateur Arts, contrasting it more explicitly with the growth in other areas would strengthen the analysis. The overview is clear, but the data reporting is slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that all trends are described with consistent accuracy, as some figures mentioned (e.g., martial arts being 'unchanged') require careful verification against the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from general trends to specific activity details. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the transition between sentences within paragraphs can feel a bit repetitive, and the use of cohesive devices is sometimes basic. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow the structure of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuation', 'declined', and 'participated'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'dramatical change' (should be 'dramatic change') and 'number rise' (should be 'numbers rose'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, these inaccuracies occasionally distract from the precision of your report. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and expanding your range of reporting verbs and adverbs to describe trends more naturally, such as 'experienced a significant surge' instead of 'number rise'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the number of people in film clubs') and subject-verb agreement ('the number were unchanged'). Additionally, there are punctuation and spacing issues, such as the extra spaces before commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly when referring to specific groups or trends.
