Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the upward trends for Table Tennis and Musical performances, the downward trend for Amateur dramatics, and the fluctuations for the Film club and Martial arts. You successfully identified the start and end points for each category. However, the overview is slightly weak because it lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes or overall patterns. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most dramatic shift (e.g., the surge in Table Tennis) rather than just listing trends. The data is generally accurate, though the description of the Film club and Martial arts ending at the 'same figure' could be more precise by stating the specific value.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, moving from an introduction to an overview and then into specific details. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire response is presented as one block of text. You should separate the overview from the detailed body paragraphs to improve readability. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'while', the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraph is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'downward trend', and 'fluctuated'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'qual' (likely meant 'equal') and 'initiated with' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). Additionally, there is some repetition of the word 'attendees' and 'figure'. To reach a higher band, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms like 'participants', 'numbers', 'attendance levels', or 'the count of individuals' to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'attendees was' instead of 'attendees were'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'surges' instead of 'surged'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'in 2010 their attendees was 20'). There are also punctuation errors, such as the placement of semicolons and commas. While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent tense usage and subject-verb agreement will lead to immediate improvement.
