Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the upward trends for Table Tennis and Musical performances, the downward trend for Amateur dramatics, and the fluctuations for the Film club and Martial arts. You successfully identified the start and end points for each category. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; while you mention the trends, you could improve by highlighting the most significant changes or the overall contrast between the activities more clearly. The data reporting is generally accurate, though the description of the Film club and Martial arts ending with the 'same figure' is a bit repetitive in phrasing. Overall, you have addressed the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized logically, moving from an introduction to an overview, and then into specific details. Paragraphing is present, though the body paragraphs could be better separated to improve readability. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'while', but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the overview and the specific data points could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences are slightly cluttered, which makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed at times. Improving the variety of linking words would help elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'downward trend', and 'fluctuated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'qual' (likely meant 'equal') and 'initiate' used repeatedly where 'started' or 'commenced' would be more natural. There are also minor errors in phrasing, such as 'the figure of attendees surges', where 'surged' would be more appropriate for past tense consistency. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'attendees was' instead of 'attendees were'), tense inconsistency (e.g., 'initiate' instead of 'initiated'), and awkward phrasing like 'in 2010 their attendees was 20'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tenses and pluralization will significantly improve your accuracy.
