The line graph illustrates people's participation in different activities at a social center in Melbourne, Australia, between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, the number of participants involved in different activities increased over the period, with some decline in amateur dramatics. People's involvement in table tennis soared dramatically after slight fluctuations, surpassing every other activity except film club. Film club and martial arts remained steady with slight fluctuations over the period.
The majority of people enrolled in the film club are around 65. Similarly, martial arts also followed a similar pattern with slight ups and downs, hovering around the same initial number, which was nearly 38 in 2000. While every activity showed an upward trend, amateur dramatics fell dramatically from around 28 people to approximately 5, specifically from 2005.
The number of people participating in table tennis surged drastically, reaching its culmination at around 55 in 2020. Although people did not show interest in musical performance initially in 2000, it surpassed the number of amateur dramatics in 2020, reaching around 18.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all categories (film club, martial arts, table tennis, amateur dramatics, and musical performance) and made relevant comparisons. However, there is a significant inaccuracy in your analysis: you mention that the majority of people in the film club are 'around 65'. The graph provided does not contain any information regarding the age of the participants, only the number of participants over time. It is crucial to stick strictly to the data provided in the visual prompt. Otherwise, the key features are well-selected and the summary is effective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity trends. You use cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'While', and 'Although' to connect ideas effectively. The progression of information is generally smooth, moving from the general overview to specific details. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between the overview and the specific data points is even more seamless, and avoid minor repetition of phrases like 'slight fluctuations' in consecutive sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a report on trends, using terms like 'soared dramatically', 'surged', 'culmination', and 'upward trend'. This allows for precise description of the graph's movements. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary is used accurately for the most part. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'number of people' or 'participants' to avoid repetition, and ensure that the terminology used is strictly relevant to the data presented in the graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over tense (past simple for the period 2000-2020) is consistent. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'reaching its culmination at around 55', where 'peak' would be more natural in this context. However, these errors do not impede communication. Your punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety helps maintain the reader's interest throughout the report.
