Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main trends and key features of the graph. The overview clearly highlights the dominant activity (film club) and the contrasting trends of amateur dramatics and table tennis. You have also made relevant comparisons, such as noting the convergence of amateur dramatics and table tennis in 2010. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with maximum precision; for instance, the starting figure for martial arts is described as 'nearly 36', which is slightly vague. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well and provides a clear summary of the data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'after 2010', and 'as well as' to link ideas. However, the use of 'as well as' in the final paragraph is slightly repetitive and occasionally awkward in its placement. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases further to avoid repetitive structures and ensure that referencing between sentences remains precise.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'downward trend', 'rapid growth', and 'fluctuated'. The word choice is generally accurate and appropriate for an academic report. There are a few instances where phrasing could be more sophisticated; for example, 'consisted of' is not the most natural collocation for describing participant numbers. While you successfully use some less common items, further development of topic-specific collocations would help elevate the score. The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the information clearly without any impediment to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'while' to create contrast. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'data of the number' (should be 'data on the number') and 'after 10 years, it showed' (which is slightly clunky). Most sentences are clear, and errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, aim for more consistent control over complex sentence structures and ensure that prepositions and article usage are refined. Overall, your control of grammar is solid and supports the clarity of your report.
