Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. However, the response lacks precision in reporting specific figures. For example, stating the film club had 'almost 64' participants is vague, and you failed to mention the starting or ending values for several activities, such as martial arts or musical performance. To reach a higher band, ensure you include specific data points from the graph to support your descriptions. While you successfully highlighted the growth of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics, the overall summary would benefit from more detailed comparisons between the categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, a body paragraph, and a summary. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Initially', 'However', and 'In summary' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the discussion of the film club and amateur dramatics feels abrupt. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, which will help the progression of ideas feel more natural and less like a list of observations.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends such as 'growing at rapid speed' and 'negative growth'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'leads the number of participants' (should be 'has the highest number of participants') and 'no major changer' (should be 'no major change'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more precise terms for trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'surpassed', would demonstrate a better command of the language and help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'the members of Amateur dramatics is rapidly falling' contains a subject-verb agreement error (should be 'are'), and 'the participants of Musical performance is also increasing' also has an agreement issue. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past data.
