The line graph shows the number of participants at a social center in Melbourne, Australia doing different activites from 2000 to 2020. Overall, the number of participants for film club, table tennis, and musical performances has increased. On the other hand, the number of pariticipants in martial arts has been almost the same while the number of people in amateur dramatics has fallen.

To start with, table tennis had the highest increase in the number of participants throughout this time starting at around 16 in 2000 and reaching more than 50 in 2020. Onwards, musical performance started from zero in 2000 and managed to get around 15 members by 2020. Lastly, the film club started and ended with the highest number of people. However, there was a slight decrease in the number of students from 2005 till 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all categories (film club, table tennis, musical performances, martial arts, and amateur dramatics) and made relevant comparisons. The data is accurately reported, and the key features are highlighted effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide more precise data points, especially when describing trends. For example, instead of saying 'around 16', try to be as specific as the graph allows. Additionally, ensure that your overview is distinct and clearly summarizes the most significant trends without including specific data points, which you have done well here.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'To start with', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping the increasing trends together more distinctly from the decreasing or fluctuating ones. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and the referencing is mostly accurate, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'consistant reduction', and 'all time high'. However, there are some spelling errors (e.g., 'activites', 'pariticipants', 'consistant', 'particiapants') which slightly detract from the quality of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to avoid repetition. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology would help elevate the response to a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'number of participants of martial arts' (should be 'for') and 'number of students' (when referring to club members). Punctuation is generally accurate, but ensure you proofread for small errors that do not impede communication. The control of grammar is good, but increasing the variety of complex structures—such as using more relative clauses or participial phrases—would demonstrate greater grammatical range.
