Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the significant growth in Table tennis and the decline in Amateur dramatics. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise comparisons between the categories rather than listing them individually. For instance, noting that Table tennis overtook the Film club as the most popular activity by 2020 would have added depth. While the data is generally accurate, ensure that you consistently use the correct terminology (e.g., 'percentage' instead of 'rate') to reflect the graph's content more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Overall,' 'Likewise,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the progression between sentences can feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between the description of individual trends and the comparison of those trends is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the data, which helps the reader follow your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuation,' 'experienced,' and 'variations.' However, there is some repetitive use of basic verbs like 'rose' and 'showed.' Additionally, there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'rate' when referring to percentages, and 'bad downfall,' which is not an academic collocation. To improve, incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'surged,' 'plummeted,' or 'remained relatively stable,' and ensure that your word choices are consistently formal and appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is sufficient for the task. There are some grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' number of participants, 'the' rise) and minor issues with preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on the correct use of articles and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent. Attempting more varied complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses to compare two trends simultaneously, would also help demonstrate greater grammatical control.
