Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the data. You have successfully highlighted the key features, such as the Film Club's dominance and the contrasting trends between Table Tennis and Amateur Dramatics. The comparisons are relevant and well-supported by the data provided. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with maximum precision; for instance, the description of Martial Arts as 'remaining the same' is slightly inaccurate given the fluctuations mentioned. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well and maintains a consistent focus on the key information presented in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group information effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Though', 'Afterward', and 'while' to link sentences and clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different activities. The flow is natural, and the information is easy to follow. To improve further, ensure that the transition between sentences is always precise to avoid any minor mechanical feel in the use of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report, using terms like 'upward trend', 'downward trend', 'fluctuations', and 'skyrocketed'. These choices help to convey the trends clearly. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'accounted for a slight decrease' (where 'showed' or 'experienced' would be more natural) and 'initiated its journey' (which is slightly informal for a data report). However, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning precisely, and there are no errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. You demonstrate good control over grammar, with the majority of sentences being error-free. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'it accounted for a slight decrease' and 'it remained the same' (referring to the activity rather than the number of participants). However, these do not interfere with the clarity of the report. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient to maintain interest and demonstrate a good command of English syntax.
