Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, but the information is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of the Film club is contradictory, stating it rose dramatically while citing figures that show minimal change. Furthermore, the data for 'Material arts' and 'Amateur' activities is described in a way that is difficult to follow and does not clearly reflect the trends shown in the graph. The overview is weak, as it fails to provide a clear summary of the most significant trends. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest points and the most obvious overall movements, ensuring the data cited matches the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by unclear referencing and awkward phrasing. While some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'Meanwhile' are used, they are often placed incorrectly or do not accurately reflect the relationship between the ideas. The lack of clear sentence boundaries and the repetitive structure make the text difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that cohesive devices are used to link ideas logically rather than just acting as sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'participents' (participants), 'Material arts' (Martial arts), 'sleadily' (steadily), and 'significally' (significantly). The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'the worst activity which have 0 participents'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the lack of precision and the repeated spelling errors hinder the overall quality of the writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise verbs for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('there was a gradual decreased'), subject-verb agreement errors ('the worst activity which have'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is usually clear, the high frequency of errors makes the text feel unpolished. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that tenses are used consistently when describing past data.
