Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest points and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the rise of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with absolute precision; for instance, you mention 'higher than 50 members' for table tennis, but a more precise estimate based on the graph would be beneficial. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the information by activity. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'however', and 'lastly' to link your points. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping the activities more strategically (e.g., those that increased vs. those that decreased). Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be tightened to improve the flow between the data points and the analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuation', 'dramatic increase', and 'recorded the highest number'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'they began their club' (referring to musical performances) and 'partook in', which is slightly formal/stilted in this context. The vocabulary is adequate to convey the information clearly, but more precise and varied reporting verbs would elevate the response further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are accurate, there are some grammatical slips, such as comma splices (e.g., 'The film club accounted for more than 60 members recording the highest number of participants, it fell slightly...') and minor errors in subject-verb agreement or article usage. The use of complex structures is evident, but they are not always error-free. To improve, focus on punctuation—specifically avoiding run-on sentences—and ensuring that subordinate clauses are correctly attached to main clauses. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded.
