Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task and identifies key trends for each activity. You successfully provided an overview and highlighted the main features, such as the upward trend for film club and table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the data reporting is occasionally inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that film club 'slowly decreased around 63 participants in 2010' and then 'increased 65 participants in 2020', which is slightly imprecise. Additionally, the description of martial arts as having 'some fluctuate' is vague. To improve, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the comparison between categories is more clearly articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'This figure' are used frequently to start sentences, which makes the flow feel a bit formulaic. Furthermore, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the jump between the film club and table tennis data. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more varied would help the text flow more naturally and elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'downward trend', 'moderately increased', and 'significantly rose'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'table tennis participated' (instead of 'participation in table tennis') and 'it inclined in the next five year' (instead of 'increased'). There are also minor grammatical errors involving word forms, such as 'participant' used as a plural noun without an 's'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and preposition usage (e.g., 'below 40 participants were martial arts', 'under 30 participant was in amateur dramatics'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and consistent punctuation will help improve your score in this criterion.
