The line bar illustrates data on the attendees for different activities at one social center in Melbourne, Australia, between 2000 and 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview. You successfully highlighted the key features, such as the Film Club's dominance and the contrasting trends of Table Tennis and Amateur Dramatics. The data is accurately reported, and comparisons are made where relevant, such as noting when Table Tennis crossed other activities. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'overview' paragraph is more distinct and perhaps slightly more analytical regarding the overall shifts across the 20-year period. You have covered all parts of the task well, providing a logical summary of the provided graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is well-organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the data, which makes the information easy to follow. You use cohesive devices like 'Although', 'Though', and 'Afterward' effectively to link sentences. The paragraphing is logical, moving from an introduction and overview to detailed body paragraphs. To improve further, ensure that the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is seamless and that you avoid slightly repetitive sentence structures when introducing new data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'skyrocketed', 'edged up', and 'accounted for'. This shows an ability to use less common lexical items with some awareness of style. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'accounted for a slight decrease' (where 'showed' or 'experienced' would be more natural) and 'line bar' (which is a contradiction; it is a line graph). However, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey precise meaning throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as 'it accounted for a slight decrease' (which is slightly awkward phrasing) and the initial description of the graph as a 'line bar'. However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The use of past tense to describe the historical data is consistent and accurate throughout the report.
