Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all five activities and provides a clear overview. However, the reporting of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating the film club number was 'equal after the 20 years' is unclear, and the description of martial arts as 'between 30 to 40' lacks precision given the graph's specific data points. While the main features are identified, the analysis lacks the necessary precision required for a higher band. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends, such as the clear divergence between the film club and amateur dramatics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Subsequently'. There are also issues with punctuation, specifically missing spaces after commas (e.g., '2020,which', '2010.Moreover'), which disrupts the flow of the text. While there is a logical progression from one activity to the next, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is sometimes weak, making the relationships between the data points feel disjointed rather than fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('ameture', 'tabble', 'panticipants', 'hapenned', 'contituted', 'perfomance') that distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic descriptors like 'highest number' or 'gradual increase'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of spelling errors and the lack of sophisticated lexical variety limit the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the film club', 'the martial arts'), subject-verb agreement ('growth... begun'), and awkward phrasing ('this trend was hapenned'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing spaces after punctuation marks. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
