Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the growth in table tennis and musical performances, as well as the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting; for instance, stating 'just under a quarter' for musical performances is unclear, as the graph shows participant numbers, not percentages. Additionally, the overview is slightly disjointed. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately interpreted and that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends across the entire period rather than listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'By contrast' and 'Finally', which are effective. However, the use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'overall,it', '2020.This'). Furthermore, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring standard punctuation will significantly enhance the readability and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'substantially', and 'participation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'musical performances members' (should be 'attendance at musical performances') and 'remained sustainable' (which is not the best fit for describing a trend). There are also minor spelling errors like 'melbourne' (which should be capitalized). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used in the correct context to describe statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'the number of people participate' (should be 'participating'), 'whose numbers sharply increased' (referring to the activity rather than the participants), and inconsistent capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately to improve your control over grammar.
