Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview. You covered all categories, including the fluctuations and the overall ranking. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention 'just under a quarter' for musical performances, which is unclear in the context of a line graph showing participant numbers. Additionally, the description of table tennis numbers (15 to 20 in 2010) is slightly imprecise compared to the visual data. To improve, ensure that your data points are clearly linked to the specific years and units provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'By contrast' and 'Finally', which help the flow. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented, particularly the split in the second body paragraph. The transition between sentences could be smoother; for example, 'This followed by Musical performances' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'substantially increased', and 'continuously dropped'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'remained sustainable' is not the most natural way to describe participation numbers; 'remained stable' would be more accurate. Additionally, there are minor errors such as 'at top' instead of 'at the top'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, there is a lack of spacing after commas (e.g., 'tennis, the'), and some sentences are fragmented or lack proper subjects/verbs (e.g., 'While others experienced fluctuations over the time'). There are also issues with capitalization, such as 'melbourne'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity. Focusing on sentence boundary control and basic punctuation rules will significantly improve your score.
