Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the description of the musical performances is slightly inaccurate; you mentioned 'just under a quarter', which is unclear in the context of the graph's units. Additionally, while you made comparisons, some of the data reporting could be more precise to better highlight the relationships between the activities. Overall, the task is addressed well, but more careful attention to the specific data labels would improve the accuracy of your reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'By contrast' and 'Finally', which help guide the reader. However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, but there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing that occasionally disrupt the flow of the text. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly and ensure that your paragraph structure is balanced.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'significantly increased', and 'substantially'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'just under a quarter', which is not a standard way to describe numerical data on a graph. Additionally, there are some minor spelling and spacing errors (e.g., 'Overall,it' and 'performances, started'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and adverbs would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors, particularly regarding punctuation and sentence boundaries. For example, 'While others experienced fluctuations over the time' is a sentence fragment when used as you have written it. There are also issues with missing spaces after commas and periods, which affects the overall presentation. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
