Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for the film club, table tennis, and amateur activities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains factual inaccuracies, such as stating that amateur activities experienced a 'sharp decline' when the graph shows a rise, or misinterpreting the musical performance data. The overview is present but lacks precision. To improve, ensure that data points are read accurately and that the summary highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the overall growth or decline of specific categories) more clearly. The response addresses the task requirements but lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'In 2000 the number of participant's in film club about 65 the highest figure relative remain stable'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult to follow the comparison between different activities. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows logically from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'social practices' instead of 'social activities' and 'clime' instead of 'climbed'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained steady', or 'experienced a gradual increase', and ensure correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('film club maintain'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. While there is an attempt to use a mix of simple and complex structures, the errors are frequent and often distract from the content. Focusing on basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for missing words would help improve the accuracy and clarity of the writing.
