Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You successfully identified the most popular activity (film club) and noted the significant changes in table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions the film club and table tennis, it could be more comprehensive by summarising the overall trends across all categories. The data points are generally accurate, though the description of the film club as 'remained at the peak' is slightly imprecise given the fluctuations shown in the graph. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the overall trend and specific data points to provide a more analytical summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moving ahead', and 'Lastly' to transition between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural in an academic context. Additionally, the referencing could be improved; for instance, 'the remaining details' is a bit vague. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect the data points more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'downfall', and 'uprise'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your report. For example, 'uprise' is not the standard term for a graph trend; 'increase' or 'surge' would be more appropriate. Similarly, 'musical performance were started' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'Melbourne city of Australia' is slightly awkward phrasing. Expanding your repertoire of trend-related vocabulary and focusing on natural collocations will help you achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'the number of individuals were ranged' (incorrect passive voice/tense), 'musical performance were started' (subject-verb agreement), and 'rosed' (incorrect past tense of 'rise'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequent grammatical slips prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of past tense verbs for reporting data will significantly improve your writing quality.
