The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The line graph illustrates the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia during a 20-year period between 2000 to 2020.

Overall, the Film Club had the highest number of participants during the period. While the attendees in table tennis and musical performances rose in 2020. By contrast, Amateur dramatics is the only activity that recorded a decrease in number of participants. The number of attendees of Martial Arts on the other hand were stable during the period.

Throughout the 20-year period, Film Club consistently attracted the most number of participants, around 62 people with a slight increase to 65 by 2020. It is followed by Martial Arts with approximately 35 participants in 2000 and remained stable at 35 at the end of the period despite minimal fluctuations. By contrast, Amateur dramatics recorded around 25 participants in 2000, slightly rose to approximately 29 participants in 2005 before it experienced a downtrend in the numbers until it recorded only around 7 participants in 2020.

Table tennis only had around 16 participants in 2000 with slight increase to 20 participants in 2010 before it recorded a sharp growth in 2020 to approximately 53 participants. Musical performances is a new offering started in 2005 and grew steadily and recorded approximately 18 participants in 2020.
