Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the most popular activity (Film club) and the contrasting trends between Amateur dramatics and Table tennis. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that Musical performances had 'no join up' in 2000 is a misinterpretation of the graph, and the description of the Film club as having an 'average of 75' is not supported by the visual data. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. To improve, ensure that data points are read precisely and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing activities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In same accountant' and 'In oppose to this' are non-standard and hinder the flow of ideas. The progression of information is somewhat disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where data points are listed without clear logical connections. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are frequently misused, which impacts the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'joins' instead of 'participants', 'competitor' instead of 'participants', and 'trendoums' (likely intended as 'tremendous'). The phrase 'dense decline' is also an incorrect collocation. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to express trends with precision. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a significant decrease' or 'a sharp rise', and avoid inventing or misusing words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the chart demonstrate', 'activities which was performed'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward or grammatically incomplete, such as 'At the start of 2000 and end of the 2020 the highest number participants are in Film club'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors. Significant improvement in basic sentence construction and proofreading for pluralisation and verb tenses is required.
