Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the trends for film club and martial arts, the description of the other activities is vague. For instance, you mention 'other activities followed almost similar trends in 2015' without specifying what those trends were or providing enough data points to support your summary. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. To improve, ensure you provide a more precise comparison of the data points across the years rather than generalising, as this is essential for a higher band score in Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Where participants for martial arts was around 40 people, yet film club were at the maximum of 60 activists' uses 'where' and 'yet' incorrectly, disrupting the flow of ideas. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where you mention 'other activities' without clearly linking them to the specific data on the graph. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic meaning, but there are several instances of inappropriate word choice. Using 'activists' to refer to participants is incorrect; 'participants' or 'attendees' would be more accurate. Similarly, 'famous' is not the right term for describing an increase in participation numbers; 'popular' or 'experienced a surge in popularity' would be better. There is also some repetition of basic structures. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and avoid using informal or incorrect nouns for the subjects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Provided line graph showed', 'there was five different types'), article usage (e.g., 'a new activities'), and tense consistency. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity, such as 'table tennis became famous with significantly increased to 53 participations'. You need to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that prepositions are used correctly. Reducing these frequent errors is necessary to move into the 6.0+ range.
