Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph, but it lacks a clear overview and fails to accurately report the data. For example, stating that interest in martial arts 'remained same' is inaccurate, as the graph shows a clear decline. Furthermore, the description of the data is vague; phrases like 'more than 60 participants' are not supported by the visual evidence provided. The response lacks a structured approach to comparing the different activities, often grouping them in a way that makes the trends difficult to follow. To improve, you must focus on identifying the specific start and end points and highlighting the most significant trends rather than providing a general narrative.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is written as a single paragraph, which hinders the logical flow of information. There is a lack of clear paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'for the martial arts' and 'all the social arts', the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different activities over the twenty-year period. Using more varied linking words and organizing the response into distinct paragraphs would significantly improve the clarity and structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'interest' and 'participants' to describe the data, which restricts the range of your writing. There are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'social arts' to describe the activities and 'dramatic dislike' to describe a trend. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'witnessed a decline', or 'peaked'. Expanding your vocabulary to include synonyms and more specific collocations will help you convey the information more accurately and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'interest remain same' instead of 'remained the same', and 'people start to show' instead of 'started to show'. Additionally, there are errors in tense usage, as the data refers to the period 2000-2020, requiring consistent use of the past tense. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Improving your control over verb tenses and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help make your writing more accurate and easier to read.
