Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify trends for the five activities, the description lacks precision. For instance, stating that participation 'remains constant' for Film Club and Martial Arts is a reasonable observation, but the report on Amateur Dramatics and Table Tennis lacks specific data points to support the trends described. To reach a higher band, you should focus on selecting key data points (e.g., starting and ending values) to illustrate the changes more clearly. The overview is also missing; a summary of the most significant trends (e.g., the overall growth in Table Tennis versus the decline in Amateur Dramatics) is essential for a high score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'in that graph whih indicates' and 'which is in reulst' are awkward and do not effectively link ideas. The progression of information is somewhat disjointed, as the transition between describing the graph's layout and the actual data is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic descriptors. There are several spelling errors ('grpah', 'participanr', 'lagend', 'whih', 'drametics', 'reulst', 'particpants') and word choice issues, such as 'get a boom' and 'take place'. These errors occasionally make the text difficult to read. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a significant increase', or 'declined steadily'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating the same words throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The line comparison graph show', 'the table tennis activity get'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to follow. While you attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty or contain errors that impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect pluralisation. Practising the use of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help increase your score.
