Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for the five categories. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the overview mentions that the film club had the 'highest rank', which is accurate, but the description of the trends is occasionally confusing, such as stating the film club remained stable from 2020 when the data ends there. The use of 'percent' is inaccurate as the graph shows raw numbers of participants, not percentages. While the main features are highlighted, the lack of precision in data reporting and the confusion between units of measurement limit the effectiveness of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In other hand' (should be 'On the other hand') and 'Second' are used to link ideas, but the flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing. The progression of ideas is sometimes unclear, particularly when moving between the overview and the body paragraphs. While the paragraphing is present, the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs significant improvement to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several spelling errors, such as 'catgeories', 'throughtout', 'continously', and 'Ameteur'. Furthermore, the word choice is frequently incorrect, such as using 'percent' instead of 'participants' and 'made a highest rank' instead of 'remained the most popular'. The student attempts to use some descriptive verbs like 'fluctuated' and 'declined', but these are often paired with incorrect prepositions or awkward sentence structures, which hinders the clarity of the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence attempts, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the film club made a highest rank'), incorrect tense usage ('stated from 15 percent'), and awkward sentence construction ('climbed for made 10 participants'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structure prevents the essay from achieving a higher score.
