Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the dominance of the film club and the decline of amateur dramatics. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and relies heavily on listing data points rather than synthesising trends. For example, the description of martial arts as '37, 30, 40, 30, 35' is repetitive and lacks analytical depth. While the overview is present, it is slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping data to highlight significant trends (e.g., comparing the growth of one activity against the decline of another) rather than reporting each year individually.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, such as the jump from table tennis to musical performance. The concluding sentence is also quite informal ('To pen down') and does not effectively summarise the main trends. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently,' 'in contrast,' or 'meanwhile' would help the ideas flow more naturally and logically throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'differnet,' 'decresed,' 'flucuations,' and 'rapdily,' which occasionally distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'higher' or 'added.' To improve, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' 'experienced a downward trend,' or 'surpassed.' Expanding your repertoire of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the number of player were'), missing articles ('in year 2000'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the overall score. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and article usage will significantly improve the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
