Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the starting points and the trends over the period. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the data for 2005 to 2010 is confusing, and the summary of the final period lacks clarity regarding the specific activities. While you have identified the main trends, the reporting of figures is occasionally imprecise or difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that you group data logically—perhaps by activity or by trend—rather than listing figures chronologically, which can lead to a disjointed narrative. Ensure all comparisons are clearly linked to the specific years mentioned in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'On the other side' is used incorrectly to introduce a contrast that does not logically follow the previous sentence. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which activity is being discussed. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that is developed logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is often repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'number of participants' are used repeatedly, which makes the writing feel monotonous. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'increased smoothly' or 'in 5 years of span'. To improve, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms and more sophisticated reporting verbs. You should also focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'witnessed a gradual rise' or 'experienced a sharp decline', rather than relying on basic verbs like 'increased' or 'dropped'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'at social center'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'film club was consider as'), and subject-verb agreement errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
