Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the most popular activity (Film club) and the significant decline in amateur dramatics. The overview is clear and highlights the main trends effectively. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise data points; for instance, stating 'around 65' is acceptable, but ensuring all figures are clearly linked to the specific years would strengthen the analysis. You have successfully selected and reported the main features as required by the task instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast,' 'However,' and 'Furthermore' to link your points. While the structure is sound, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the referencing could be more precise; for example, in the second paragraph, 'Similar behavior seen for martial arts' lacks a clear subject, which slightly disrupts the flow. Overall, the information is well-arranged and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'slight fluctuations,' 'significant drop,' and 'rapid rise' are appropriate for describing trends. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'highest steady number of students' (which is slightly awkward) and 'the least amount participants' (should be 'the fewest number of participants'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure grammatical agreement when using quantifiers like 'amount' versus 'number'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'between 2000 to 2020' (should be 'between 2000 and 2020') and missing articles, for example, 'it always maintained a highest steady number' (should be 'the highest'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly fragmented, such as 'table tennis participants around 20,' which lacks a verb. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve accuracy.
