Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main trends, such as the growth in the Film club and Table tennis, and the decline in Amateur dramatics. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For example, you state that Amateur dramatics started at '18 ratio' and grew, but the graph shows a different starting point. Furthermore, the use of the word 'ratio' is inappropriate for this data set, which represents participant numbers. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the figures from the graph and use appropriate terminology like 'participants' or 'number of people' rather than 'ratio'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. Phrases like 'in the next year' and 'as the years passed' are used to link ideas, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be more sophisticated to better guide the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'decreased' and use the term 'ratio' incorrectly throughout the response. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'acitivities', 'perfomance', and 'actitivities'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable', and ensure that you use terms that accurately reflect the data being presented.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Film club and Table tennis which grows' (subject-verb agreement) and 'straight goes upward' (awkward phrasing). Additionally, there are issues with tense consistency, such as 'Musical performance activity occurred that increased'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past trends. Proofreading for minor errors in articles and prepositions would also help improve the overall accuracy.
