The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The line graph illustrates the number of participants for different activities at one social center in Melbourne, Australia between 2000 and 2020.

From a broader overview, it is clear that film club remained the most popular activity throughout the period, despite some fluctuations. Table tennis experienced the highest growth among all five activities, showed a consistent upward trend. In contrast, amateur dramatics decreased steadily after 2005 and became the least popular activity by 2020. The number of martial arts participants fluctuated throughout the period. In addition, musical performances had no participants in 2000 and 2005, but increased steadily thereafter.

In 2000, almost 65 participated in film club activity. This figure fell to around 60 in 2010 before recovering to approximately 66 by the end of 2020. However, martial arts had approximately 37 participants, which decreased to almost 33 in 2005 and increased to around 38 in 2010. This number again fell to around 34 in 2015 before rising to almost 35 in 2020.

Amateur dramatics, on the other hand, had approximately 26 participants in 2000, which increased slightly to around 29 participants in 2005. This figure decreased steadily and fell to a low of around 5 participants in 2020. Table tennis class had almost 16 participants in 2000, increased slightly to around 20 participants in 2005 and remained stable in 2010. This number rose steadily and increased to a peak of approximately 53 by 2020. Nevertheless, musical performances had no participants between the period of 2000 and 2005. This figure increased to around 11 in 2010, almost 15 in 2015, and approximately 20 in 2020, showing a consistent upward trend.
