Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for table tennis, amateur dramatics, musical performance, martial arts, and the film club. However, the overview is missing; a successful Task 1 response must include a clear summary of the overall trends. Furthermore, the data reporting is occasionally imprecise, such as stating 'about 18' or 'almost 65', which lacks the precision expected in an academic report. While the key features are identified, the lack of a clear summary and the somewhat disjointed presentation of data points prevent this from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or misused, such as the frequent use of 'however' to connect unrelated points. There is a lack of logical flow between the different activities described. To improve, you should group related information into distinct paragraphs—for example, one for increasing trends and one for decreasing or fluctuating ones—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. You rely on basic verbs like 'keep going up' and 'rise', which are repetitive. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the data keep going up' and 'the number comes close from where it started'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the occasional misuse of terms (e.g., 'material arts' instead of 'martial arts') limit the lexical range. Using more precise reporting verbs and nouns would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the data keep going up'), missing articles, and run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation. For example, the sentence 'Musical performance started in 2005 keeps up to about 25 people however the number of participants those take part in the material arts keep going up and down' is grammatically fragmented and confusing. Improving your control over sentence boundaries and ensuring consistent verb tenses would significantly improve your score.
