Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the data. While the student identifies some trends, such as the Film club being popular, the description is fragmented and lacks precision. Several parts of the graph are not described, and the analysis is hindered by unclear references to 'the table' and 'unclear' sections. To improve, ensure all data categories are addressed, provide a clear summary of the main trends, and meet the length requirement to allow for full development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response lacks a logical structure. Paragraphs are poorly defined, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the report difficult to follow. For example, the transition between the discussion of Amateur dramatics and the Film club is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'however', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' to connect ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping similar trends together.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'balanced' and 'huge number'. There are also issues with word choice and clarity, such as 'table terms' and 'not worse than 40', which do not accurately describe the data. The use of the word 'unclear' suggests a lack of vocabulary to describe trends or specific data points. To improve, learn specific terminology for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'experienced a significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical range is limited to simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in sentence construction and tense usage, such as 'Film club is always on peaks' and 'they never had less than 30 participants and not worse than 40'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. To improve, focus on using a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences, and ensure consistent use of past tenses when describing historical data from 2000 to 2020.
