Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the ability to address the task. While you have provided an introduction and a brief overview, you have failed to provide the necessary detail, data points, or comparisons required for a full report. The response stops abruptly after the overview, meaning the main body paragraphs—where the specific trends and data comparisons should be detailed—are entirely missing. To improve, you must ensure you describe the key features of the graph with supporting data and extend your analysis to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate a clear logical progression or effective paragraphing. While the sentences present are grammatically linked, the lack of a full body section means there is no overall structure to evaluate. The use of cohesive devices like 'While' and 'as the counterpart' is a positive start, but because the response is incomplete, it fails to provide the necessary flow and organisation expected in an IELTS Task 1 response. You need to expand your writing into distinct paragraphs that group information logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally accurate and appropriate for the context, such as 'consistently remained dominant' and 'surging'. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'whole 20-year period' (missing an article) and 'in the half of the period given before' (which is slightly unnatural). To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a marginal increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The sentences produced are grammatically sound and demonstrate an attempt at complex structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses starting with 'While'. However, there are minor errors, such as the missing definite article in 'across whole 20-year period' and slightly clunky phrasing in the final sentence. Because the text is so short, it is difficult to assess your ability to maintain accuracy over a longer piece of writing. Focus on ensuring articles and prepositions are used correctly and try to vary your sentence structures further.
