Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest participants, the description of trends is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state the film club 'reached below 70' in the final year, which is vague, and the description of the martial arts and table tennis trends is difficult to follow due to unclear data reporting. The overview is present but lacks clarity. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the different activities and use precise data points to support your descriptions rather than generalising with terms like 'insane' or 'null'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'afterwards it begin to rise' or 'then slow increment and and became same'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which activity is being discussed in the latter paragraphs. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'starts', 'reached', and 'rise'. There are also instances of inappropriate word choice, such as 'jumped insane' and 'null participants', which do not fit the formal tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. Spelling errors, such as 'fluctuated' (used incorrectly as a verb form) and 'increment', also detract from the quality. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuation', 'decline', 'surge', and 'plateau'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the film club which was highest number', 'it begin to fell'), tense consistency (mixing past and present), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary articles and prepositions. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles before nouns.
