Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You have successfully identified the film club as the most popular and noted the significant growth in table tennis. However, the overview is slightly limited; while you mention the film club and musical performances, you could have provided a more comprehensive summary of the overall trends (e.g., the general upward trajectory of most activities). The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between categories is clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview captures the most significant trends across the entire period rather than just focusing on individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different activities. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is functional but could be more sophisticated. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'declining', and 'remained at'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'people participants', which is redundant. You also repeat the phrase 'number of participants' frequently. To improve, try to use synonyms or vary your sentence structure to avoid repetition. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score. Incorporating more topic-specific collocations would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as the capitalization error in 'it stood' and the redundant phrasing 'people participants'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there is an unnecessary comma after 'participants' in the second paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To achieve a higher score, aim for a greater variety of complex structures and ensure that subject-verb agreement and word order are consistently accurate throughout the text.
