Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is severely underdeveloped. While the introduction attempts to paraphrase the prompt, it contains factual errors (e.g., mentioning 'different countries' when the graph refers to a single social centre). The overview is vague and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. The body paragraph is fragmented, lacks specific data points from the graph, and fails to provide the necessary comparisons required for an Academic Task 1 response. The response is far too brief to adequately address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and lack progression. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, and the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt. The lack of development makes it difficult to follow the writer's intent. To improve, the student should focus on using linking words (e.g., 'however', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') to connect ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus supported by data.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are numerous spelling errors, such as 'numeronues' for 'numerous', 'particiapants' for 'participants', and 'flim' for 'film'. The word choice is often inaccurate or awkward, such as 'people were like to do', which is informal and grammatically incorrect. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the ability to describe trends or data accurately. The student needs to learn specific terminology for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'reached a peak'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Examples include 'it can clearly seen that' (missing 'be'), 'as campare to' (incorrect prepositional phrase), and 'in 2000 number of participants take part' (missing articles and incorrect tense). The sentence structures are simple and often incomplete. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures. To improve, the student must focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
