Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all five activities and provides data points for the start, middle, and end of the period. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the overall trends or significant differences between the activities. The reporting of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing, such as the description of martial arts, which lacks specific figures, and the phrasing 'human beings were less interested' is inappropriate for an academic report. To improve, focus on grouping trends (e.g., activities that increased vs. those that decreased) and ensure the overview highlights the most striking features rather than just listing details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are mechanical or missing, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the film club and amateur dramatics is abrupt. While the use of 'meanwhile' and 'one noticeable fluctuation' attempts to link ideas, the overall structure lacks the sophisticated signposting required for higher bands. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic structures like 'take a part in' and 'number of people'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'human beings' instead of 'participants' or 'attendees', and 'fluciation' (spelling error). The use of 'famously' or 'famous' to describe trends is not appropriate for data analysis. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and avoid informal or imprecise phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are consistent issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', 'are took a part'), subject-verb agreement, and article usage. The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For instance, 'there were shown a many changes' is grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent tense usage when describing past data, and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and unnecessary articles.
