Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview of the main trends, such as the Film club being the most popular and the decline of amateur dramatics. It selects and reports key features effectively. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the mention of '3015' (likely a typo for 2015) and some confusion in the description of martial arts trends. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis could be more precise in comparing the activities to one another rather than just listing them chronologically. Overall, it covers all parts of the task sufficiently.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Similarly' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the unclear connection between sentences in the second body paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the data points more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses a range of vocabulary appropriate for describing trends, such as 'skyrocketed', 'declined significantly', and 'remained stable'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'amount of participants' (should be 'number of participants') and 'Furthermor'. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. The range is sufficient for the task but does not demonstrate a high level of flexibility or control over less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('musical performances was 0') and tense inconsistencies ('decline to approximately 30'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that occasionally distract the reader. While the meaning is rarely impeded, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
