Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including trends and comparisons. You successfully identified the main trends for each activity and provided specific data points to support your descriptions. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention the highest and lowest participants, it lacks a clear summary of the overall trends (e.g., the general growth in popularity for some activities versus the decline in others). To improve, ensure your overview captures the 'big picture' more effectively. The data points are generally accurate, though ensure you are consistent with the units provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on specific activities. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'By 2020', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by grouping activities with similar trends together rather than listing them individually. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'the candidates in this', which lacks a clear antecedent. Strengthening the use of transition signals would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'surged', 'declined', and 'hovering'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'involvement in various parts of activities' and 'lowest candidates' (where 'lowest participation' would be more accurate). There are also minor spelling errors like 'peformance' and 'remaind'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are consistently appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'film club and table tennis had largest numbers', 'Musical peformance had lowest candidates') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'hovering around between 30% and 40%'. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and pluralization, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
